Election day, step by step

Polls typically open at 6am and close at 5pm. Anyone in the queue by closing time is allowed to vote, however long it takes.

Carry the document you registered with: your national ID or passport. Nothing else is needed.

At the desk, an official checks your identity against the electronic register (KIEMS kit), usually by fingerprint.

You receive six ballot papers. In the booth, mark ONE candidate per ballot with a clear mark inside that candidate's box. Fold each paper and drop it into the matching-colour ballot box.

Voting is secret. Nobody, including officials, party agents, or family, may watch you mark your ballot or ask afterwards who you voted for.

It is illegal for anyone to pay you, transport you in exchange for your vote, or campaign inside or near a polling station. Report violations to the presiding officer or the police.
