Key dates

The road to 10 August 2027. Dates marked expected follow the usual electoral calendar but are not yet gazetted by the IEBC — confirm before planning around them.

1. 1 January 2026

   Continuous voter registration

   Register any working day at your constituency's IEBC office. Don't wait for a mass drive — registration closes months before the election.

2. 1 October 2026 expected up next

   Enhanced mass voter registration drive

   IEBC's countrywide push with mobile BVR kits in wards and markets. The easiest chance to register close to home.

3. 9 February 2027 expected

   Voter registration closes

   The register closes about six months before election day. After this you cannot register or transfer for the 2027 General Election.

4. 1 March 2027 expected

   Register inspection window

   Check your details on the roll and report errors. This is the last chance to fix a wrong polling station or misspelt name.

5. 15 April 2027 expected

   Party primaries season

   Parties nominate their candidates for every seat. Party members vote in primaries; independents prepare their papers.

6. 24 May 2027 expected

   Candidate nomination with the IEBC

   Every candidate presents nomination papers to the IEBC. The final ballot line-up per seat is known after clearance.

7. 1 June 2027 expected

   Official campaign period begins

   Cleared candidates campaign under the Electoral Code of Conduct until 48 hours before election day.

8. 8 August 2027

   Campaigns end

   All campaigning must stop 48 hours before polls open. No rallies, adverts or bulk campaign messages beyond this point.

9. 10 August 2027

   Election day

   The 2027 General Election: six ballots, one day, polls open 6am to 5pm. The date is fixed by the Constitution (second Tuesday of August).

10. 17 August 2027

    Presidential result declared

    The IEBC must declare the presidential result within seven days of election day.
