Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who has held office at nearly every level of Kenya's political system. He was elected to the National Assembly in December 2007, representing Kisumu Rural constituency under the National Rainbow Coalition banner, and served as acting leader of the Orange Democratic Movement between March and May 2009 while Raila Odinga was in the United States, having previously been the party's Secretary-General. In government he served as Minister for Medical Services and earlier as Minister for Planning and National Development. He later represented Kisumu as Senator from 2013 to 2017, before being elected Governor of Kisumu County, the position in which he has continued to serve.
